Tank Inventory Management

The Tank Inventory Management (TIM) module is part of the fitOMS (future integration technology for oil movement system) module series. It is used in offsite refinery operations to gather tank data and monitor alarms via a distributed control system (CENTUM CS 3000).

The TIM module has been designed to make optimal use of the standard functions of the CENTUM CS 3000. Real-time data gathering and tank alarm monitoring are executed by the CENTUM CS 3000 Field Control Station (FCS), which allows for high-speed scanning. This function is primarily used to control tank switching during unloading operations and/or feed/rundown operations. Highly reliable systems can be configured by adopting a fully redundant FCS.

Details

Tank Data Gathering / Calculation

  • Data: tank level (mm), tank temperature (deg. C), tank pressure (MPa: spherical tanks only), and volume (liters)
  • Calculations: volume (liters), ullage/available volume (liters), tank flowrate (Kl/h), and expected completion time of operation

Tank Volume Calculation (Optional)

  • If the tank gauge system does not calculate tank volume, this function is provided as an option. This calculates tank volume from the tank gauge system's level and temperature data and performs temperature compensation based on the ASTM table. This calculation can be performed with the following tank types:

Monitoring Functions

Tank Status Management

The following tank statuses are managed:

  • STATIC: The tank level is not changing.
  • MOBING-UP: The tank is being used as a receiving tank.
  • MOBING-DOWN: The tank is being used as a sending tank.
  • UNDEFINED: The tank is being used as both a recieving and sending tank.
  • OUT OF SERVICE: The tank cannot be used in operations.
  • MAINTENANCE: The tank is undergoing maintenance.

Tank Alarm Monitoring

The following tank alarms are monitored:

  • Level
  • Temperature
  • Pressure (for spherical tanks only)
  • Flowrate
  • Static electricity
  • Tank operation
  • Leakage
  • Pre-alarm

Job Finish Condition Monitoring

  • When a tank is being used in oil movement operations, the target volume or the transferred volume is monitored. An event notification message is generated when the completion condition is met.

  • Alarm Value Setting (per tank)
  • Tank Use Information (per tank)
  • Critical Tank Display (tank summary)
  • Tank Alarm Detail Display (per tank)
  • Tank Maintenance (per tank)
  • Tank Table Maintenance (per tank)
