Since 1997, Yokogawa has adopted Enterprise Technology Solutions as its new business concept. ETS is a commitment to the aim of providing optimum solutions from the viewpoint of enterprise management, to satisfy every customer's requirements and expectations with the state-of-the-art technology, and the fields it covers range from control to enterprise information management. As a core product in the control domain of overall ETS solutions, we have developed the CENTUM CS 3000, a process control system for large-scale plants. To provide an open architecture, the operating system Windows NT, which has already become a de facto standard, is used as the human interface. Control functions of the CENTUM CS 3000 are configured by field-proven hardware and software to assure high reliability.

This paper describes the features, functions, and architecture of the CENTUM CS 3000.

We have developed CS Batch 3000, a suite of batch control software applications for implementation of recipe management and process management for the CENTUM CS 3000. CS Batch 3000 manages and controls batch production process by coordinating the use of plant equipment, formula data, and procedural logic to produce products. CS Batch 3000 conforms to IEC/61512-1, an international standard of batch control. This paper outlines CS Batch 3000.

The new CENTUM CS 3000 distributed control system for large-scale plants incorporates the new technologies of OPC, DCOM, ActiveX and Web browsers to offer interoperability through standard data access interfaces and component embedding technology. These new technologies are essential for the CENTUM CS 3000 as a platform to supply solutions.

CENTUM CS 1000/CS 3000 ELECTRONIC DOCUMENT

Printed bookbinding paper product manuals have been provided with Yokogawa's control systems represented by CENTUM CS so far.

In 1997 and 1998, new production control system CETUM CS 1000 and integrated production control system CENTUM CS 3000 (hereinafter referred as CS 1000/CS3000) were released one after another, their operation and the engineering functions run on the open-architecture Windows NT.

In cooperation with the new product development, we achieved to provide users the documents and online manuals in electronic data for the first time. So that our company has broke away from the paper documentation era.

The file format and the electronics data are PDF (Portable Document Format) compliant, copyrighted by United States Adobe Systems which has been widely accepted as the standard electronic document format and the internet document format on Web. The needs for paper documents are also taken care of in our electronic document construction.

This article outlines the planning and production of the electronic documents for CENTUM CS 1000/CS 3000 functional online manuals.

FIELDBUS SYSTEM ENGINEERING

Emerging fieldbus technology is revolutionizing most of the control technologies in process industries, with this engineering revolution capturing a great deal of user interest. Traditionally, control-loop architecture was designed and incorporated inside distributed control systems (DCS). Now however, this architecture can be incorporated into the whole system including the field devices, because the control functions are distributed throughout the field. Engineering a fieldbus system will not only involve designing control loops but also developing and maintaining fieldbus devices used at different places by a variety of persons with different backgrounds.

This paper discusses the fieldbus engineering system that evolved from the search for a new method of fieldbus engineering, describes the latest features and merits of the fieldbus engineering tools developed for this system, and gives a practical example of how to engineer a fieldbus system using the CENTUM CS 1000 or CS 3000 system.

SB2000 IEEE1394 SERIAL BUS ANALYZER

The SB2000 IEEE1394 serial bus analyzer uses hardware triggering and real-time filtering functions. This instrument efficiently analyzes the performance of equipment using the IEEE1394 protocol. The analyzer also can generate isochronous packets and asynchronous packets sequentially. Internal probing circuits measure the serial bus signals, twisted pair A (TPA) and twisted pair B (TPB). This enables users to analyze configurations and arbitrations by linking the event list with a digital oscilloscope. SB2000 can thus analyze the IEEE1394 serial bus fully from the physical layer to the application layer.

We have developed the US1000, a 1/2-DIN size (72 mm x 144 mm with depth of 150 mm) digital indicating controller with highly visible bar graphs and digital alphanumeric indications as well as user-friendly keys for high operability. Features include input-to-output isolation, universal inputs allowing direct connection to thermocouples and resistance temperature detectors, and a 24-V DC transmitter power supply. The US1000 can be set for use as a single-loop, dual-loop, or cascade controller using controller mode selection. Besides these settings, the user can easily configure their own control algorithms, namely, custom computations, and incorporate these into the US1000 using a PC-programming tool by a simply assembling blocks. This complies with key international standards such as CE Marking, and those requiring non-incendive characteristics and dust-proof and waterproof protection
