Career stories - Niels Huttenhuis

“For proactive people Yokogawa can be a great environment.
You can create opportunities that will accelerate your career.”

How would you describe your job and role at Yokogawa?
My career journey at Yokogawa developed itself from Service Coordinator via Account Management to my current role as a Business Development Manager.
In the company’s best interests, I focus on business development for our customers, particularly by advocating innovation. To remain in a position of a high quality and result-driven company, we sometimes must adapt our approach of doing business.
In 2018 I joined Business Acceleration Squads Initiative (BAS in short), a platform where, based on the Agile Scrum method, our quest is to explore new markets. In a role of Product Owner, I was responsible for setting the dot on the horizon, prioritizing the team’s product backlog and building the bridge between stakeholders and the team.

What is the most remarkable thing you have done at Yokogawa so far?
By introducing an agile way of working, the degree of collaboration increased significantly which appeared to have a motivating effect on the team members. Team members now collaborate by contributing their own relevant skills to solve a customer’s problem. The team itself decides on the strategy to tackle the problem and determines the roles per each member. One of our achievements is that we brought ourselves in the spotlights in the agricultural field.  In my opinion, everyone has great ideas and strengths, but it requires courage to realize these. My role is to facilitate and give these ideas a platform. I try to support teams by identifying and removing obstacles, thus improving the quality of the work and team spirit.

Yokogawa values 'quality of life' for their employees. How do you experience that in real life?
In Yokogawa you’ll find satisfying ways to combine work and private life. Because I am ambitious in achieving my goals and feel trusted by colleagues, I have freedom to organize my work- life so I can put more effort in my job in some periods and get a bit more at ease in other periods, when workload allows me to do so..

Why should talented people consider Yokogawa as a potential new employer?
For proactive people Yokogawa can be a great environment. You can create opportunities that will accelerate your career. In case of my specific position, I travel around the globe and meet a variety of customers. Also, I am fortunate to work with open-minded colleagues. Such valued ingredients make working at Yokogawa a privilege for me and many of my colleagues and make Yokogawa an attractive company, seeking the best for her customers and her employees.
