Yokogawa Demonstrates ISA100 Wireless Technology in Control Application at User Conference

Tokyo, Japan - August 30, 2013

At the Yokogawa Users Conference 2013, Asia Pacific, which was held August 27 to 29 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Yokogawa demonstrated the use of field wireless devices in a water level control application. The devices utilized in this demonstration were compliant with the ISA100.11a industrial automation wireless communications standard.

The system designed for this demonstration included a prototype wireless D3 valve positioner from Flowserve Corporation and Yokogawa's flagship CENTUM*® VP integrated production control system, wireless gateway devices, and the DPharp EJX B series wireless differential pressure/pressure transmitter. The field wireless devices all incorporated ISA100 Wireless*™ technology* that featured a fast 1-second data update time. Redundant wireless communications paths were employed to ensure high reliability.

Yokogawa is working on the application of wireless technologies that can be suitable for both monitoring and control purposes throughout plants. The demonstration conducted by Yokogawa showed for the first time how CENTUM VP could be used under actual plant conditions in a wireless control application.

To broaden the use of ISA100 Wireless technology and related services in plant-wide wireless applications, Yokogawa has been aggressively promoting its "Wireless Anywhere" business concept. The ISA100 Wireless technology ensures high reliability, application flexibility, network expandability, and compatibility with a variety of wired communication standards such as FOUNDATION™ fieldbus, HART*®, and PROFIBUS. Yokogawa provides field wireless products that make use of state-of-the-art dual redundant technologies. In addition to ensuring a higher level of reliability, Yokogawa ISA100 Wireless solutions allow massive scalability and enable long-range communications.

This realization of a wireless control system with high-speed response and high reliability gives Yokogawa great momentum as it works to assure the success of an integrated single wireless infrastructure in plant-wide monitoring and control applications.

* ISA100 Wireless is technology that is based on the ISA100.11 standard. It includes ISA100.11a-2011 communications, an application layer with process control industry standard objects, device descriptions and capabilities, a gateway interface, infrared provisioning, and a backbone router.
