Yokogawa Meters & Instruments Announces Release of DL850 ScopeCorder and DL850V ScopeCorder Vehicle Edition

Tokyo, Japan - May 18, 2010

Yokogawa Meters & Instruments Corporation announces that it will release the DL850 ScopeCorder and DL850V ScopeCorder Vehicle Edition on May 19. The standard DL850 ScopeCorder model succeeds the DL750 ScopeCorder released in 2002 and features a number of significant enhancements. The DL850V Vehicle Edition is a special model that includes added functions for use in automotive research and development.

With the ability to capture high-speed signals, both of these new models can accurately measure the signal waveforms from inverters, which play a key role in reducing energy consumption. Both are capable of performing multi-channel waveform recording over extended periods, increasing efficiency in such product development applications as the analysis of signals from electrical and control systems in today's increasingly computerized automobiles.

The company will exhibit these two new models at this year's Automotive Engineering Exposition, which will be held May 19 to 21 at the Pacifico Yokohama Convention Center.

Development Background

With the rising awareness of the importance of energy and resource conservation, manufacturers of home appliances and other products are seeking to optimize their designs to reduce energy consumption. Motor-driven appliances such as refrigerators and air-conditioners rely on inverters that can reduce power consumption by closely controlling the motor speed. Accordingly, manufacturers are developing more efficient inverter designs by increasing their conversion frequency, which requires the ability to measure high-speed signals.

Furthermore, with the accelerating pace of development of electronic control systems, hybrid vehicles, and electric vehicles by the automotive industry, the number of items that must be measured and evaluated is increasing and they are becoming more complex. Accordingly, measuring instruments for development and evaluation require more input channels and memory than ever before. In addition, there is an ever rising need for the analysis of signals that travel over controller area network (CAN) busses, which have become the de-facto standard in automotive digital communications.

To meet these market requirements, the company has developed the DL850 and DL850V ScopeCorders.

Product Features

  1. Greatly enhanced performance
The performance of all basic functions has been increased substantially. The DL850 and DL850V have a maximum sampling rate of 100 MS/s (mega-samples per second). This is ten times faster than the DL750. The DL850 and DL850V also have 128 channels, which is eight times the number of inputs available with this earlier model. The maximum memory capacity has been doubled to 2 GW. Also, the data transfer rate to PCs has been substantially increased, improving operating efficiency when saving, analyzing, and displaying data with a PC.
  2. A Wealth of Plug-in Modules
A total of 15 plug-in modules are now available for use with the new and existing models, including a new high-speed voltage module, multi-channel voltage module, logic input module, and CAN bus monitoring module (for the DL850V). These modules meet a wide range of measurement needs, such as high-speed sampling, high-voltage isolation, and multi-point measurements.
  3. Monitoring Trends of CAN Communication Data in Waveforms
CAN busses are increasingly used for communications between automotive sensors and electronic control units (ECU). The newly developed CAN bus monitoring module enables the DL850V to display CAN bus communication data waveforms, monitor sensor signals, and view the correlations with other control signals. This module assists the development and evaluation of all kinds of vehicles as well as consumer products that utilize the CAN bus technology.

Major Target Markets and Applications

  • Research and development laboratories and production lines that require the inspection of the mechatronic systems and electronics in motors, inverters, home appliances, automobiles and automobile components, railroad equipment, industrial equipment, and other electronic components.
  • Electric power and voltage monitoring, maintenance, and inspection by electric power companies
  • Research and development of new energy sources

* About ScopeCorder
The major feature of the ScopeCorder is its ability to observe physical signal outputs over extended periods of time, and it is particularly useful in mechatronics related development activities, where a great emphasis is placed on noise-proof performance. The ScopeCorder is both an oscilloscope that can capture rapid events and a data recorder that can record trends with high resolution and over extended periods of time.
