The Process Automation Hall of Fame was created in 2001 to recognize the contributions made by outstanding process automation professionals working in the process automation and control industry. To date, 34 people have received this honor, and this year's nominees are Dr. Wilkins, John Berra, the former chairman of Emerson Process Management and Dr. Sigurd Skogestad of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Last year, Yutaka Wakasa, a former Yokogawa director, became the first Japanese inductee, which means that Yokogawa employees have now been selected two years in a row.

The nomination of Dr. Wilkins reflects the following significant contributions that he has made to the control industry:

  • He has been dedicated to the establishment of a procedural automation standard for the continuous process industries to improve safety and efficiency at manufacturing sites and to capture the knowledge of the aging workforce. He was responsible for proposing the ISA106*1 standard defined by the International Society of Automation (ISA)*2 and is now managing director of the ISA106 committee.
  • From 2004 to 2009, he was chairman of the World Batch Forum (WBF), an association of users and manufacturers that helps with understanding and implementing standards for manufacturing automation. In this role, he demonstrated strong leadership and commitment, and contributed to the progress of the association even during the global economic downturn.

Encouraged by this award, Yokogawa will continue working to contribute to society and achieve progress in the control industry by developing and introducing advanced control equipment based on excellent control technologies.

*1 A standard framework for automating operating procedures in continuous processes

*2 Founded in 1945, the ISA is an organization that sets and advocates technology standards for the control industry to improve safety, efficiency, and profitability at manufacturing sites.
