Yokogawa's ProSafe-RS Wins Japan Techno-Economics Society's President's Award

Tokyo, Japan - Feburary 2, 2015

Yokogawa Electric Corporation's ProSafe®-RS safety instrumented system has won the Japan Techno-Economics Society's (JATES) President's Award*1. The announcement of this award was made on February 2, and it will be presented at a ceremony to be held in Tokyo on February 17.

Award theme (business)

Commercialization of the ProSafe-RS safety instrumented system

Outline of technology and reason for commendation

In process industries such as oil, natural gas, and petrochemicals, safety instrumented systems play a crucial role in ensuring safety by automatically shutting down plant facilities whenever an abnormal condition is detected. Until recently, such systems were kept separate from production control systems due to the possibility for conflict between their respective functions.

The release of Yokogawa's ProSafe-RS in 2005 was a revolutionary step forward for safety instrumented systems. Far from interfering, the ProSafe-RS system can be fully integrated with a production control system and provide a unified operation/monitoring environment. This greatly improves operational efficiency and enables comprehensive management of control and safety information, resulting in safer and more advanced operations.

Other system suppliers have followed Yokogawa's lead by bringing similar systems to market. As a result, ProSafe-RS-like systems are becoming the industry norm, and the market for safety instrumented systems has shifted from a mature, inactive market to a fast-evolving one with annual growth of 10%*2.

Encouraged by this award, Yokogawa will continue to provide products and solutions that improve both safety and production efficiency.
