Yokogawa Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6841) announces that Toshio Ono has received the International Standardization Award: Achievement Prize from the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers (SICE)*1. The award was presented on September 12.
The International Standardization Award: Achievement Prize is given to individuals and organizations who have significantly contributed to a field in which SICE is involved through the establishment of international standards. Encouraged by this, Yokogawa will continue working to establish measurement- and control-related international standards.
As an international expert in the working group of the OPC Foundation and the IEC/TC65 technical committee, Mr. Ono has worked hard to develop these international standards, improve the quality of related documentation, and globally promote the standards. He has been given this award in recognition of his contributions in developing and promoting a communication interface standard that plays an important role in smart manufacturing.
*1 Founded in 1961 to promote collaboration among scientists and engineers from various fields. In such areas as measurement, control, and information systems, SICE is working hard to address issues faced by the oil, petrochemical, iron and steel, chemical, telecommunication, and other industries. Since its establishment, SICE has supported advanced academic research in Japan.
*2 OPC is the interoperability standard for the secure and reliable exchange of data in the industrial automation space and in other industries. OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) is the latest version of this standard. OPC UA is independent of any specific hardware or operating system platform, and ensures high security and extensibility.
*3 A standard for the integration of enterprise and control systems that was defined by the International Society of Automation (ISA). In many Western countries, this serves as a reference model for manufacturing operations management.
