Yokogawa Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6841) announced today that its subsidiary, Yokogawa Engineering Asia, has been awarded a contract from PUB, Singapore's National Water Agency, to develop a plant simulation system for the Lower Seletar Waterworks, a 60 million gallons per day (mgd) water treatment facility in Singapore. This is part of PUB's continual investments in innovation and R&D to ensure a safe and sustainable water supply for Singapore.
This plant simulation project serves to enhance training for plant operators and strengthen their maintenance and operational capabilities through the provision of digital replicas of plant internal conditions. The system will have predictive capabilities to simulate how the plant would respond under various scenarios, to ensure safe and efficient plant operations. The system comprises two key elements: i) OmegaLand, an operator training simulator (OTS), supports self-learning through various what-if scenarios. This is interactive training that equips plant operators with know-how in plant startup and shutdown procedures, and familiarizes them with the handling of equipment and power failures; ii) Mirror Plant*1, a virtual plant simulator, synchronizes with the plant's monitoring and control systems to predict changes in water quality that may arise from operator inputs. In this application, Mirror Plant will also be able to determine the optimal chemical dose and provide real-time water quality predictions to assist in operations.
This is Yokogawa's first Mirror Plant order from an organization based outside Japan. For this project, Omega Simulation Co., Ltd.*2 will be responsible for the provision of consulting services and Yokogawa Engineering Asia will be in charge of engineering and project management. The project is scheduled to be completed in August 2021.
